“I set out in January of 1982 to produce each day for a month—a different architectural ‘bon bon’. No more, no less. A delightful exercise in colour and line in contrast to the days themselves, an exceptionally cold, dark and stormy month. To peruse the architectural vocabulary at random, wherever I felt like going on that particular day. No more, no less. As a serious student of architectural history from the Neolithic to the present for over 50 years, I have always been enamoured of architectural decorative arts that utilize the motifs of the era without being constrained by the functional requirements of an actual building. Altarpieces, candelabra, reliquaries, light fixtures, furniture, and especially architectural follies and garden pavilions whose only purpose is to delight, I have always found intriguing. The fascination of imagination. Little souvenirs of ‘sundry’ travels.”
